Sad Woman, Sad Son

Sad Woman, Sad Son

Brother, behold your mother
in her tears and pain…
the anguish she sees in the presence
of her Son nailed to a tree.
John, care for her for she is Our Mother,
yours and mine.

We men, we will never understand
what it is to watch the product of our own
pass from this world to that of Our Father.

with her, so she may not be alone in this.

What pain our mother knows
–what pain we will never know–
empathize where sympathy cannot walk.
Let her teach us how to wander
ouside the realm of sin…
she has a world of children, now.

Mother, brother, beneath the setting Sun.
