The Coronation of the Church
When Joseph left Jerusalem on foot,
Arimathea would no longer be his home.
His staff at hand, he walked the northern way
until he came to Ephesus with John.
The house of stone they built still stands
where Mary trusted every gem she had,
the sapphires of her wedding day, to him.
Accompanied, he headed for the sea.
The furthest reaches of the world in sight,
the North-most wall of Rome’s Empire ahead,
he leaned into the wind upon the deck,
his staff beside the anchor by the mast.
The branch of wood he’d fashioned for the trek
will bloom again before the Queen bedecked.
